With an abundance of affordable accommodation options, fun-packed activities and glorious sandy shores, it’s no surprise that Burnham-On-Sea is one of Somerset’s most popular destinations to share a memorable family break.

Whatever the weather, you’ll find plenty of adventure and fun, so take a look at some of the best things to do in one of the county’s top family holiday spots.

Long sandy shores

One of the best reasons to visit this coastal town is the glorious long stretch of sandy shoreline, perfect for activities, walking and soaking up the Somerset sunshine. It’s one of the longest beaches in Europe with over seven miles to explore. There are several beaches along this stretch including Berrow beach, Brean Down and the well-known Lighthouse spot.

Who doesn’t love trying to win a cuddly toy or playing the latest arcade games on a stay by the seaside? Head to Burnham Pier on your family break and enjoy slot machines, a game of tuppeny falls or walk to the end to admire views over the coastline.

Brean Down Fort

[ I Fort This Was Cool ] ------------------------- πŸ“· Canon 760D πŸ“† April 2017 🎨 Adobe Lightroom ------------------------- πŸ“– Figured I'd throw a bit of colour into my feed! This was taken after I accidentally found a fort. This isn't it - I think this was a turret house, at the very edge of the fort. I wanted to take a long exposure shot, but I thought it'd be a terrific idea to come out with less than half battery and this was the last shot I managed to capture of the day before the camera died. I'd managed to take a series of portrait shots of my girlfriend on top of the hill earlier in the day, which I was saving for my portrait account but... *effort*. Should I just go ahead and flood this account with portrait shots as well? Also - I'm going into hashtag rehab. I've been abusing them for too long - I still see them when I close my eyes. On average, one in every seven words I use in my day to day life, I accidentally pronounce with a silent hashtag. It's time to stop. So, I'm relying on all of you to show some love, as I won't be seeing many new faces for a while! ------------------------- #explore_earth__ #ukpotd_may17

This family-friendly attraction offers the perfect day out. The site is filled with exotic and tropical birds, including red macaws (shown above), in the surroundings of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s also chance to stop for refreshments at the café and pick up a memento of your visit in the gift shop too.

Animal Farm

Another fun day out for adults and children alike is the Animal Farm amusement park in nearby Berrow. There are plenty of activities, rides and attractions including the Caterpillar Rollercoaster, Safari Train and petting zoo plus much more. The kids can also become animal keepers with a spectacular hands-on animal experience, educational talks and a certificate of your visit.

Burnham-on-Sea and nearby Brean are not short of fantastic and affordable accommodation options for a family getaway. We have a range of self-catering cottages in Somerset close to the beautiful sandy Somerset coastline providing an adventurous and traditional bucket and spade seaside experience
