The county of Somerset is full of romantic destinations, days out, and unique opportunities to spend some time together on a fantastic Valentine's break. Covering two cities and numerous areas of incredible beauty, there's so much to do in the area with your loved one.

To help narrow down the choices of where, and how, to spend a quality romantic break in Somerset, we've collected a selection of our favourite romantic Somerset locations with the aim of inspiring you to make this year's Valentine's Day extra special.

The City of Bath

Bath is often described as one of the United Kingdom's most romantic and attractive cities and certainly lives up to that billing. Ancient Roman baths, Georgian sandstone buildings shaped in elegant crescents, and beautiful countryside combined with gloriously green parks make the city a treat on the eyes and the perfect place to spend time together on a romantic break.

Shop together as a couple; search for bargains in the larger chains or stumble upon surprise gems in the smaller family run gift shops in the quaint alleyways. Match this with some fine, candlelit dining, or some classic fish and chips next to the duck pond, and an ultimately romantic day falls into place. The Roman baths offer a great opportunity to explore some of the city's history and the UK's only natural hot springs. Visitors can unwind in the traditional baths or upon the warm open-air rooftop pool whilst taking in spectacular views of the city skyline.

Glastonbury Tor

This 15th Century tower and the giant imposing hill that it rests on is on our list for one reason only – the views of the surrounding area. Right in the heart of the Somerset countryside, the Tor has uninterrupted 360° views of Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, and Wales. The tower itself is awe-inspiring and worth seeing in the evening as the sun can shine right through the central arcs and lights illuminate the tower, making it amazingly picturesque.

The walk to the summit is steep, but it is worthwhile when you allow the views to take your breath away. Picnics, selfies, and whole days simply sat together doing nothing except enjoying each other's company are the best way to spend Valentine's Day at the Glastonbury Tor.

Glastonbury Abbey

If in the Glastonbury area for Valentine's weekend, put some time aside to visit the remains of Glastonbury Abbey for a lovely combination of romance and history. The remains of Glastonbury Abbey lie in the centre of the charming town of Glastonbury, with cafes and shops mingled around it. Set in a flat green field, with nearby parks dotted with benches and picnic spots, the remains are fascinating and picturesque.

Spend some time walking through the stunning remains of a once magnificent building, explore the grounds together, and learn about the area's history before indulging in the nearby cafes and shops. This is a truly charming way to spend time with your loved one.

Mendip Hills

This is one of Somerset's most special places, and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We recommend the Mendip Hills for the stunning scenery, the vast array of landscapes, and the number of attractions available. The limestone hills combined with the lakes of Chew Valley is a stunning landscape consisting of breath-taking slopes, rolling hills, spectacular gorges, flowery grasslands, secret woods, and rocky outcrops.

There are also hundreds of ancient monuments sitting on the hilltops while the mysterious Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge Caves can be found in the area for some special photography opportunities. Drop everything this Valentine's weekend, get in the car and explore the Mendip Hills of Somerset. Because nowhere else can provide such a vast array of natural sights worth seeing, such a vast selection of wildlife, and the opportunity to lose yourselves in this fabulous part of the UK.

Burnham-on-Sea Beaches

There are seven different beaches along the Burnham-on-Sea shoreline, and when combined they make up over six miles of pure sandy beach, the second longest stretch of sand in Europe. The Beach Lighthouse Area is where you will find the famous lighthouse on sticks, which leads to Berrow Beach where you'll find the well-documented skeletal remains of a boat. Nowhere is better for a romantic Valentine's Day stroll than these beaches, where the whole day can be spent strolling up and down the golden sands and through the dunes.

These areas of the beach are also dog-friendly so furry friends don't have to miss out on the fun! Often it can be the simplest of things that make a memorable Valentine's Day such walking arm in arm, hearing the sounds of the sea, feeling the sand beneath your toes, taking a relaxing beach picnic, and enjoying an ice cream together as you watch the boats sail by is one of the best ways we can think of to spend time with your loved ones.
