The north of Somerset is where you’ll find the most populated towns and cities along with the majority of beaches that are in the county. Bristol is the largest city in the  larger combined county of Somerset & Avon and is home to a host of historical buildings and fun days out with great access to the city via the M5. Clifton is part of the city and is home to Bristol Zoo. Architecture found in Bath is remarkable with many breath-taking buildings that will keep you amazed during your holiday in Somerset. Arguably the most famous attraction in Bath is the Roman Baths which have naturally heated water. Wells is the smallest city in England with only 12,000 people living there and is a hidden gem in the north of Somerset.

Weston-Super-Mare is the most famous coastal location in the county and is a popular destination with holidaymakers looking for a traditional seaside holiday. You’ll have eight beaches within a 30-minute drive if you choose to holiday in Burnham on Sea, another stunning coastal location in the north of Somerset. Clevedon sits right on the Bristol Channel and has a Grade I listed pier that charms visitors every year. As you move away you’ll be met with spectacular scenery particularly at Cheddar Gorge which is nearby Cheddar and Axbridge. Every year over 100,000 people descend on Glastonbury for the music festival but there are many more historical remains to see whilst there too such as Glastonbury Tor and Abbey.

A major town in the south of Somerset is Yeovil which is a town set amongst some stunning countryside and is a great place for shopping. Clarks Village was the first factory outlet store in England and is located in Shepton Mallet. There are a number of charming towns and villages found in the south of the county including, Bruton, Castle Cary, Chard, Crewkerne and Langport with a number of these hosting regular markets which are an opportunity to pick up some fine local produce.

West Somerset is largely rural but does have spectacular views of the coast particularly from atop of Exmoor. Minehead is on the edge of Exmoor National Park and is a popular destination for holidaymakers and day trippers alike and great dog-friendly holidays. Other seaside towns in West Somerset include the harbour towns of Watchet and Porlock. If you’re looking for a town which celebrates Guy Fawkes Night in style then Bridgwater is the town for you with it famous carnival taking place on bonfire weekend.

The largest town in West Somerset is Taunton and is home to a flourishing high street mixed with large brands and local independent traders. Neighbouring Wellington is a charming town with stunning gardens that are beautiful for relaxing with a picnic. There are a number of beautiful villages in the west including Dunster, which has a castle sitting high above the village, Wiveliscombe and Nether Stowey.

Along with Exmoor National Park there are a series of notable locations found within the Somerset borders including several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty including the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills and Quantock Hills.
