South Somerset borders the southern county of Dorset and incorporates some of the most picturesque towns and villages in whole of the region.

South Somerset encompasses a large expanse of countryside, making it perfect for active holidays, particularly for those who enjoy countryside walks and rambles as well as cycling as the many of the trails and pathways are relatively easy to access. The Somerset Levels can be found in the Southern area of the county, and are also great for family friendly activities in the countryside.

Bruton is a little hillside town on the river Brue, the high street here is linked by narrow alleyways and the whole town is a delight to explore featuring Jacobean alms houses, abbey remains and a famous dovecote. Similarly, the highest and most southerly town in Somerset, Chard is a historically significant town in South Somerset and the history of the town from the 13th Century is documented in the town’s museum. Interestingly in Chard, the high street is flanked by two streams and a diverse collection of shops. Also explore the hill fort and The Elizabethan Guildhall that are located in Chard. During your holiday in South Somerset, explore the local attractions including Chard Reservoir Nature Reserve and Hornsbury Mill which has a working water wheel and a landscaped water garden. For adventurous days out you might enjoy the nearby safari park of Longleat Estate or, Cricket St Thomas Park.

Arguably the largest town in Southern Somerset is Yeovil, a bustling town that is great for its shopping and culture. During a stay in Yeovil, you will find be able to enjoy the art centres and galleries that are evident in the town.
