Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

Street is a small town near Glastonbury that sits on the slopes of the Polden Hills in the Somerset Levels. Although often not considered as much of a holiday destination as its near neighbour Glastonbury, Street has a lot to offer anyone who is considering heading to Somerset to enjoy a short break or a longer holiday.

Street is the traditional home to the Clark shoe company and while the headquarters still remain in Street, production has now moved elsewhere, Street is home to a fantastic open air shopping centre. A lot of the old housing in the area is a sign of the Clarks legacy in the town, with a lot of the profits made by the company in its early years being placed back in to the welfare of its workers in the local community. For those interested in the heritage of the town, make sure to visit the Shoe Museum, which is home to more than 1500 shoes dating as far back as Roman times.

Street is also home to a number of pubs, cafés and restaurants, making it the perfect retreat for those searching for a little indulgence. Shop till you drop in the designer outlets before stopping to enjoy a slice of cake and a cappuccino while you watch as the world goes by. In the evenings, whether you’re looking for something chic and contemporary or traditional and cosy, the pubs and restaurants are sure to deliver in Street.

A lot of the land around the town is owned by The National Trust and Street Heath is managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust. All of these areas are brilliant spots for walkers to take in the wonderful Somerset countryside and enjoy breathing in the pure air of the South West. There are also two Sites of Special Scientific Interest near the town and these are called the Walton and Ivythorn Hills and East Polden Grasslands.

There are some ideal places to go walking in the nearby countryside, so anyone who is looking to explore the natural splendour of Somerset can have a wonderful holiday if they base themselves in this lovely small town. Head up Collard Hill for some amazing views of the Somerset levels and beyond, or alternatively, you can head over to Glastonbury and explore the famous Glastonbury Tor and Abbey. On a hot sunny summer’s day, why not visit Street’s own heated lido, which is called Greenbank Pool and is situated opposite Clarks Village?
