On the western edge of the Mendip Hills, Axbridge is a small market town with a lot of delightful charm. The town centre, with its ancient and beautiful church and distinctive architecture, makes you feel as though you have really stepped back in time.

In the centre of the village you’ll find King John’s Hunting Lodge, a Tudor house which has been restored to a magnificent standard and is now used as a museum. If you’re interested in the history of Axbridge then you can follow the town trail which will introduce you to all the historic features of the town, with many of them dating back over 1,000 years.

The famous Mendip Hills provide a lot of interesting landscapes for you to explore whilst on your holiday in Somerset. Why not take a trip over to Cheddar Gorge, a famous location for all to enjoy? Or alternatively, if you want to relax by the side of the water and take a gentle stroll in the country for a day then you can head up to Cheddar Reservoir. While on your travels be sure to pass by Ashton Windmill which is set in the prettiest of surroundings and presents the perfect picture opportunity particularly at sunset when the sun falls behind the windmill, an ilylic shot to add to your Axbridge holiday.

If you’re around during September, the Axbridge Blackberry Fair is always a brilliant occasion in which both visitors and locals can get involved in a traditional show and events throughout Axbridge. Continuing the fruit theme, the traffic free Strawberry line is an old railway track that makes for an excellent cycling path through the area. Take in a film during your Axbridge holiday at the unique Roxy cinema, the smallest in England housing only 36 people in this grade II listed building. You might even be lucky enough to combine your holiday with a warm up gig for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with performers looking to test their routines in front of a small audience before taking to the big stage.

For a day out at the seaside during your Axbridge holiday then be sure to head to Weston-super-Mare or Burnham-on-Sea where you can spend a day on the beach or at one of the piers that are found in these two towns. The towns are the perfect spots for enjoying some traditional British Fish and Chips.
