A great spot for those requiring a peaceful and relaxing holiday or wishing to enjoy all that Somerset and Dorset have to offer. There is a choice of country walks, cycle routes and golf at Cricket St Thomas. Retail therapy can be found in the market towns of Ilminster, Chard, Crewkerne and the larger towns of Yeovil and Taunton. Explore the famous World Heritage Jurassic coastline where you can go fossil hunting on Charmouth beach or visit Lyme Regis, Dorset’s iconic seaside town. Nearby are National Trust's Barrington Court, Lytes Cary Manor, Montacute House and further afield, Stourhead House and don’t forget to visit the Quantock Hills, or the nature reserves on the Somerset Levels.

You are welcomed into the delightful character accommodation through the front door where there is a useful porch to store muddy boots after a countryside walk. You will then be greeted by the lounge which is bursting with original features including exposed beams, flagstone flooring and a fireplace which boasts a wood burner for those cooler evenings. Here you can relax on the comfy sofas while watching your favourite programme on the Smart TV/DVD. The original flagstone flooring continues into the well-equipped kitchen/diner which has an electric range style oven and gas hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, perfect for trying out new recipes or old family favourites. Heading up the cottage style stairs to the first floor you will find two beautiful bedrooms both with original features including beams and a feature fireplace in the master bedroom. The spacious master king-size bedroom enjoys countryside views and has a TV. The second bedroom is very flexible, a single with additional single bed, which can be made up as a single or twin on request, it enjoys views over the courtyard and surrounding fields. You will also find the bathroom on this floor with a shower over bath, sink and WC, it also has beautiful heritage fixtures and a feature fireplace.

Venturing outside there is a pretty enclosed sheltered suntrap courtyard with seating and a charcoal BBQ making it a perfect spot to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining with a glass of wine, or a place to relax and enjoy your morning coffee while reading the paper or planning the day ahead. There is also an outhouse which is perfect for storing bikes. There is off-road parking for two cars to the front of the cottage.

Our 4th stay and it just felt like home, so cosy and relaxing . Slept like a log every night , the most comfortable mattress and luxurious bedlinen, an absolute treat -have a bad back and its so hard to find great bed when go away. Brilliant location for days out, Bath, Wells and Street our usual haunts. A lovely cottage, thoughtfully modernised while keeping in character, the pictorial record of the restoration is fascinating. Really good location for both coast and country. Locally Dowlish Wake and Chard Reservoir are pleasant walks and lots of National Trust places are within easy reach. Scrumpy Cottage is a beautiful renovated 18th century cottage in a prime location in Somerset. Ilminster is on the Somerset/Devon/Dorset border. Plenty of attractions within fine distance. We couldn't fault the cottage for cleanliness and equipment and the friendly owners who live 2 doors away who left thoughtful provisions on arrival. There is road noise close by but good double glazing in the cottage and road is quiet at night time. Scrumpy Cottage was perfect and we will be looking to visit again. Very well situated for all the local amenities and not far from the coast as well. Lots to see and do nearby and slightly further afield. Such a lovely place to stay in the heart of the countryside.
