Crewkerne boasts an auction house, independent shops, a museum, swimming pool, and gym, and a recreation ground with children’s park. There is a train station 1 mile from the property, which is on the main line from London Waterloo to Exeter. Explore the famous World Heritage Jurassic coastline, go fossil hunting on Charmouth beach (14 miles) or visit Lyme Regis (15 miles), Dorset’s iconic seaside town. Also nearby are National Trust's Barrington Court (7.5 miles), Montacute House (7.5 miles), Lytes Cary Manor (14 miles), and English Heritage properties Muchelny Abbey (9.5 miles) and Sherborne Old Castle (14 miles).

This beautiful characterful accommodation was formerly a shoemaker's shop and cottage dating from the early 1800s, featuring large south-facing windows with a view of the neighbouring church garden. Tastefully renovated, it now features a welcoming lounge with the original flagstone floors throughout the ground floor, which are warmed by the underfloor heating. Settle in for a snug evening in front of the electric wood-burner-effect fire with a bottle of wine and a film on the Smart TV. A step leads down into the perfectly equipped kitchen/diner which also has a door that opens onto the main street. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, Tassimo coffee machine, and dishwasher. It is a great space for cooking lazy breakfasts or trying out new recipes. Completing the downstairs accommodation is a utility room with a washing machine and a WC. Heading up the steep cottage-style stairs, you will find the two bedrooms, a double and a single. There is also a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a WC.

There is no outside space for this property, however, there is an extensive recreation ground with a children’s park, just moments from the cottage, which is great for kids and your four-legged friends. Allocated parking opposite the cottage Monday-Saturday (it’s a church car park) is available and parking can also be found on the street (subject to availability), or just over 300 metres away there is a public car park.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 single

  • On-street parking (subject to availability), parking in grounds of church available via the owner, public car park just over 300 metres
  • Shops and pubs less than half a mile
  • Due to the nature of this cottage, there is a steep staircase to the bedrooms and bathroom
  • Arrival: 17:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

Small, comfortable house in a very central position in an interesting town. The owner was most helpful in arranging parking and offering advice on places to eat. The drinks/biscuits left for our arrival were most welcome as was the information about walks etc. The house is on a busy road but the secondary glazing was effective. The steep staircase Read morewould be difficult for someone with mobility problems but I would recommend this for anyone else. Hide

Had a lovely three night stay at Shoemaker's Cottage. The house was clean and tidy, and exactly as described. It was a great location, just a short walk into town and not far from countryside walks. There was a nice selection of games, books and a jigsaw as well as locally produced biscuits and drinks.

Great cottage, everything you need for exploring the hidden gems of the area or having a drink/meal locally. Such a great place with a really helpful owner. Rarely go back to the same place as I like exploring new places but will probably go here again.

The town of Crewkern is very pretty, unfortunately there are also a lot of cars driving through the town, so it is quite noisy.

Very clean, warm and cosy. Very close to all Crewkerne has to offer. It has a downstairs toilet as well as one upstairs which was a plus.

We have just spent an enjoyable 4 nights staying at this property. A great place to stay with plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. The house was very welcoming and clean, we were a family of 3 and there was plenty of space for us all.
