Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

On the southern border of Somerset and just east of the town of Chard is the stone built market town of Crewkerne. With a rich history that includes the minting of coins during the reign of King Ethelred (978-1016) the town is a delightful place to enjoy a holiday in Somerset. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Blackdown Hills, is only a short trip away, perfect for peaceful countryside walks.

The town itself offers a whole host of urban activities from shopping and craft buying to swimming and dining, and for those who prefer a little bit more fresh air activity the town is surrounded by paths and cycle routes that run through the lush countryside. One way to enjoy the great outdoors is by visiting the Bincombe Beeches Nature Reserve, which offers spectacular views over the town and surrounding countryside. Make sure to look out for the line of 200 year old Beech trees which gives the reserve its name. There are some lovely sights in the town itself, including the 15th century parish church and 19th century Georgian houses, which were built following the wealth of the wool and textile industries. The town centre is in fact a specialist Conservation Area, due to these magnificent historical buildings. With the Crewkerne Museum offering a great insight into the past of this part of Somerset you can enjoy a visit and learn something about the local heritage too.

If you’re willing to travel a little further afield then there are plenty of attractions nearby for a variety of ages. Families can enjoy a day at Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park, while couples may want to visit Forde Abbey Gardens for a romantic stroll. Also, having a local tipple while in Somerset is a must, so we highly recommend stopping off at Perry’s Somerset Cider Farm.

Yeovil is the nearest large town offering all the conveniences and lively atmosphere of town life, but you’ll also be within easy reach of Ilminster and Ilchester. Also, why not consider popping over the border into Dorset and enjoying some of the fine attractions that are available in the neighbouring county? You really can have the best of both worlds while enjoying a holiday in Crewkerne.
