Nether Stowey Holidays |

Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

On the northern border of the Quantock Hills, England’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Nether Stowey is a delightful little village and designated Rural Centre perfect for a holiday in Somerset. With a small selection of shops and a handful of local pubs you will find everything you need nearby for a simple holiday in the heart of an English countryside village.

Those interested in poetry may want to visit Coleridge Cottage which was the home to Samuel Taylor Coleridge who helped to found the Romantic Movement with William Wordsworth. If you take a walk around the streets of the village and through the surrounding countryside it’s easy to see why the poet was influenced to write about the beautiful places in this part of Somerset. The Coleridge Way celebrates his walks in this particular area.

Stowey Castle only remains in ruins these days, but the culturally and archeologically important site is certainly worth a visit to see the remains of this incredible Norman keep. Locate and venture up Castle Mount where you will be treated to magnificent views across Bridgwater Bay and to the Welsh coast. A holiday in Nether Stowey has the perfect combination of coast and country. A short trip to the north will have you at Watchet, or, by travelling slightly further east, you can reach the popular seaside destination of Burnham on Sea.

The abundance of walking and cycle trails, coupled with the close proximity to the stunning coastline and visitor attractions make Nether Stowey the ideal location for a wide range of holiday types including family holidays, romantic breaks, and group holidays. To the west you will find Exmoor, with its meandering trails and secret locations to make your own, whereas to the east you will find the town of Bridgwater and nearby Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve. While following the coastline, you will find a fantastic array of coast paths which offer stunning unparalleled views across the Bristol Channel.

Due to the location of Nether Stowey, you are perfectly placed to enjoy a visit to the Quantock Hills, which offer picturesque days out, scenic picnic locations for romantic holidays, or somewhere to stretch your pooch’s legs during a dog friendly holiday. The Quantock Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and this status is extremely well deserved. During your visit here, you will be able to explore rocky Jurassic coastline, exposed heathland summits, deep wooded combes, undulating farmland and attractive villages.
