Set in the Somerset village of Kingsdon, this fantastic farmhouse has been lovingly updated to offer a characterful retreat for families and groups of friends. With a village pub less than 100 metres away and plenty of trails leading from the doorstep, this property is well suited for days of walking. The farmhouse is just a mile from the A303, making it easy to hit the road and tour the region every day. Live life as a local with a visit to the market town of Somerton (3.5 miles), where you’ll find a choice of shops as well as pubs and restaurants for the days you don’t fancy cooking. Similar offerings await in The Newt in Somerset estate, with its picturesque gardens, ancient woodland, spa, eateries and shop. With Castle Cary Railway Station just 11 miles away, trips to the likes of Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury and Yeovil are made easy.

Before stepping into this charming property, take a moment to admire its stone-built exterior and the quiet, private spot it occupies on the Lanyards Farm Estate in the heart of the village. Head inside and find room in the entrance hall to kick off muddy walking boots. Uncover plenty of room for the group to spread out and relax thanks to a drawing room and separate lounge divided by wide doors that can open to form one large social space. The lounge also beckons with comfortable seating and a Smart TV – perfect for movie nights. When stomachs start rumbling, walk through to the well-appointed kitchen to find an exceptional space with everything needed for cooking up group feasts. Enjoy the allocated chef’s work at the breakfast table here or plan sit-down meals in the dining room with its 12-person table and crackling wood burner.  When it’s time to call it a night, six individually styled bedrooms are spread across the property, the first of which is on the ground floor in a separate detached annexe accessed across a small courtyard: a king-size room with its own lounge, kitchenette and en-suite shower room. Back in the main house and up the stairs, five more bedrooms await. Choose from a master super-king-size room with an en-suite shower room, a super-king-size room with an en-suite bathroom, 2 king-size bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms, and a cosy twin that makes use of a bathroom across the hall.

Step outside each day to make full use of the fantastic gardens. Enjoy peaceful mornings exploring the landscaped grounds and gather at the patio to fire up the charcoal BBQ and sit down for an al fresco feast. After long days of walking, rest weary muscles as you soak in the bubbling hot tub in the courtyard, offering the perfect spot under Somerset’s starry skies. For rainy days or competitive evenings together, a separate games room stands ready with table tennis, a pool table and a dartboard. Parking is available for up to 6 cars: 1 car in the covered carport, 2 spaces in the gravelled parking area, and 3 additional spaces on the communal driveway.

We rented the property in order to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary with our family. Our party contained people in the age ranges of 20s to 80s and we all enjoyed the property and all felt comfortable. We also all enjoyed playing darts and table tennis in the games room and eating at The Kingsdon Inn which was close enough for us all to walk Read moretoo. We found the village very pretty and those of the village that we met were very friendly. Hide
