Get the whole gang together at this former windmill for a wonderfully relaxing holiday just 4.5 miles from the historic town of Taunton. Sleeping eight people across four bedrooms, it’s a perfect accommodation choice for large families or groups of friends searching for a unique retreat to call home while they explore the Somerset countryside together. Head to the spectacular Hestercombe House and Gardens (2 miles) to stroll among its elegant terraces, water features, woodlands and art exhibits. Treat yourself to a big day out at Taunton Races (6 miles), or make a beeline to Trull Waterfall (5 miles) to spot kingfishers. Indulge in a little retail therapy in Taunton (4.5 miles), and while you’re there, check out the exhibits at the Museum of Somerset, which is located in the 12th-century Great Hall of Taunton Castle. Further afield, spend a contented few hours fossil-hunting at Blue Anchor Beach (20 miles).

From your private parking area (there’s room for four cars), step inside this magnificent building and the hall will lead you to a sleek open-plan kitchen/dining area with impressive country views. Continue to the large lounge, where exposed timber beams, the windmill’s round wall, a welcoming wood burner and fabulous country views create a timeless retreat. A utility room and a smart shower room completes the ground-floor layout. At the end of the day, head upstairs and you’ll find four stylish bedrooms, all with apex ceilings and beams - three king-size bedrooms (two with en-suite shower rooms), as well as a super-king-size bedroom that can be converted into a twin on request. A family bathroom with a free-standing bath and a separate shower completes the layout.

Step outside from the lounge/diner and share a fun BBQ dinner on one of the two patio's. Afterwards, open the bi-fold doors from the lounge and take a relaxing dip in the hot tub. Children can let off steam in the large garden, which is surrounded by open arable fields and has fabulous views across the surrounding countryside.

** An Absolute Somerset Gem We Didn't Want to Leave!** Weve just got back from an amazing stay at Woodball Cottage. Three generations of family, and every single one of us absolutely loved it. The location is brillianttucked away down its own track past a picture-perfect pond, which looks great if you catch it at with the right sunset. ThRead moree location is quiet, peaceful and the perfect base for exploring Somerset. The panoramic countryside views are beautiful, and we were lucky enough to have the occasional pheasant or two popping into the garden to visit. The cottage itself was immaculate. Its been modernised beautifully but still keeps all the character of the original building. Debbie was a fantastic host and even welcomed us with a homemade cake, which was absolutely delicious and such a thoughtful touch. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed, and the hot tub was perfect for unwinding after a long day out. It is rare to find a place that completely suits everyone, but this cottage managed it effortlessly. We really did not want to leave and are already hoping to return soon Hide
