This characterful 17th-century cottage has undergone a meticulous renovation and is nestled in the Somerset village of Rickford renowned for its ‘Swiss-style’ chapel. This pretty village has a local pub (65 metres) and a stream which passes the cottage to a shallow ford around a hundred metres away. You’ll be situated at the foot of the Mendip Hills, a National Landscape where walkers and cyclists can enjoy the spectacular scenery together with an array of wildlife nearby. It is also perfectly located for enjoying the area's must-see locations, such as the historic spa city of Bath (21 miles), the metropolitan city of Bristol (13 miles), the picturesque scenery of Cheddar Gorge and Caves (9 miles), and Wells (11 miles), the smallest cathedral city in England. There are also the local lakes of Blagdon (3 miles) and Chew Valley (7.5 miles) close by.

Step inside this characterful property and you will immediately find yourself in an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, a perfect place for a peaceful breakaway. Settle in for a snug evening with a film on the Smart TV in front of the warming wood burner set in a large inglenook fireplace. The well-equipped kitchen has all the facilities you will need to cook a breakfast or a delicious feast. Head upstairs to the beautiful double bedroom and sleep tight after exploring the wonderful countryside. Completing the accommodation is an immaculate shower room.

To the front of the cottage is a small, enclosed seating area which overlooks the stream – a real suntrap. Directly across the lane is a delightful outside space with a table and chairs, so you can enjoy your morning coffee or some al fresco dining.

We really enjoyed our stay at Somerset Cottage in Rickford. The cottage was clean, cosy, peaceful and perfect. It's ideally located to enable visits to places such as Chew Magna Valley and Wells but also situated in the heart of some glorious countryside which means you can go out for a walk. We had a lovely week in this well cared for cottage. Sandy and Mike are exceptionally friendly and helpful, a solid ten out of ten! The surrounding area offers plenty of nature and culture for a great time. One thing to keep in mind: absolutely everything is provided in the cottage, but there is no coffee machine. A gem of a cottage! A perfect setting for a couple or single person. The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. The owners made us feel very welcome, they are extremely kind and friendly and made our stay exactly what we needed. Very cozy and well equipped cottage that has been tastefully renovated. Excellent, friendly and attentive hosts. The cottage is in a very good location being close to Bristol (recommend using the Park and Ride at Long Ashton if visiting) and the lovely countryside of the Mendips and Chew Valley. I would've given this cottage 10 ­ if I could. The quality of the contents provided was exceptional. The owners were so friendly, nothing was too much bother. The neighbours were also so friendly, it truly was a great base to see some of the lovely, interesting things Somerset has to offer. And the bed was the most comfortable we've ever slept in!!

Somerset Cottage is a perfect retreat for a couple. All well equipped and we used the log burner on the colder nights. A good base for exploring Somerset including Cheddar Gorge, local walk to Blagdons New Inn, Wells, Clevedon and Weston super Mare.
