One of the most popular visitor destinations in the county, this village situated right on the edge of the Mendip Hills is a hugely diverse and exciting place from which to base a holiday. The Mendip Hills themselves are one of the finest places to enjoy walking, riding and cycling through the countryside; you can even find a racing track on the Mendip Hills.

Visit the Cheddar Gorge and Caves for some of the most amazing and naturally dramatic scenery that the country has to offer. Reaching up to 500 feet in places, the gorge has the highest inland cliffs in the United Kingdom. Gough’s Cave is the larger of the two caves here and leads 400m into the rock-face. One of the best ways to admire all the dramatic landscape is by taking the Gorge Open-top Bus Tour where you’ll hear plenty of interesting facts on the region at the same time. Take the lengthy climb up the Lookout Tower and you’ll be treated to views that seem to last forever.

Wookey Hole is another collection of caves nearby with many myths and legends linked to the the caves. There are a number of fantastic attractions at Wookey Hole including a 4D cinema, Victorian Penny Arcade and Wookey Hole Circus Show.

The village itself has a range of small shops selling local crafts being regularly referred to as Cheddar Gorge Craft Village. The centre of the village is also home to an attractive church and a market cross. There are also some great places to eat and drink nearby.

The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company still works using the same traditional methods today that have been used for centuries. You can enjoy watching this spectacle whilst on your holiday in Somerset by popping along to the company and watching their masterful cheese makers at work along with an informative visitor centre also being on site.

Add a bit of competition to your holiday in Cheddar by visiting Cheddar Crazy Golf one of the most picturesque crazy golf courses in the whole of the UK. If you prefer your competition to be a bit more exhilarating then South West Karting where you can race around the track in either a 200cc Biz Kart or even jump on a Mini-Moto and whizz around the course.
