Just to the south of Bristol, and near to the North Somerset border, is Clevedon: a delightful Victorian seaside town that sits right on the Bristol Channel. The pier is a Grade I listed building and is recognised as one of the finest, winning pier of the year in 2013, as well as the oldest, still standing in the country. You may wish to take tea in the pavilion at the end of the pier or, go for a coastal cliff top walk nearby.

If you have children, the pebble ridge and beach are great for treasure hunting. The mix of sand and pebble beach runs right along Clevedon’s promenade from the pier and is a popular beach for fishermen. There are a number of boats which, during the summer months, travel from Clevedon up and down the Bristol Channel to locations in Devon, Cornwall and Wales. If you’re looking for something to do in the area then be sure to take a visit to Ladye Bay, a secluded lesser known cove beach nearby that is a real favourite for visitors to the area.

Clevedon’s seafront is packed with restaurants, cafés and tearooms so why not grab a bite to eat and marvel at the beauty of the region or be a bit more traditional and tuck into some fish and chips on the beach. Clevedon has a thriving arts and crafts industry with the Clevedon craft centre dates back to the 17th Century and sells many locally made items as well as offering workshops.

There is a National Trust property on the outskirts of the town with the Grade I listed manor house dating back to the 14th century. Clevedon Court is an impressive building with many displays of Eltonware pottery and a collection of Nailsea glass being found within its four walls. At the rear of the Clevedon Court are gardens which are equally as impressive as the building with the best time to visit being during May and July as plants are in full bloom.

The towns, cities and villages that surround Clevedon just add the allure of the holiday here. The coastal location of the towns means you’re never too far away from a beach, with the popular coastal locations of Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea worth visiting during a day trip. Bristol is the nearest city and is rich in cultural heritage including Bristol Cathedral and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
