This delightful, stone-built former shoemaker’s shop nestles in the heart of Crewkerne in Somerset and offers charming accommodation to space-seeking couples and small families. With Crewkerne on the doorstep, guests have a wide choice of independent shops to explore, as well a children’s park and welcoming local pubs, restaurants and cafes. With the train station just a mile away, it’s easy to explore wider Somerset, perhaps nipping into Devon or Dorset to up the ante during days out. With the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site just 15 miles away, it’s a breeze to plan days by the sea, and the fossil-rich beaches of Charmouth, Lyme Regis, and Seatown are all within 16 miles. For popular attractions nearby, visit the National Trust's Barrington Court (7.5 miles), Montacute House (7.5 miles), Lytes Cary Manor (14 miles), and the English Heritage properties of Muchelny Abbey (9.5 miles) and Sherborne Old Castle (14 miles).

On arrival to this characterful cottage, take a moment to appreciate the golden hue stone outside which is typical for the region. The traditional charm continues inside where the property’s history is revealed through large, south-facing windows, old stone walls, exposed wooden beams, and flagstone flooring. Tastefully renovated, the former shoemaker’s shop now features a welcoming lounge which is made extra-cosy thanks to the underfloor heating and soft sofas that sit beside the wood burner-effect electric fire. Flick on the Smart TV here and settle in for a memorable movie night together. When stomachs start to rumble, take a step down into the perfectly equipped kitchen/diner which also has a door that opens onto the main street. Find all you need in this chic space to cook up feasts for your loved ones, who can enjoy the chef’s work at the vibrant dinner table beside the window that completes this room. When it’s time to call it a night, walk past the convenient utility room and follow the steep cottage-style stairs to the first floor where two delightful bedrooms await. Choose from a sumptuous double bedroom and a cosy single room, both served by the well-appointed bathroom with a shower over the bath.

There is no outside space at this property, however, there is an extensive recreation ground with a children’s park just moments from the cottage. The town centre also makes for peaceful morning walks before the world awakens.

The cottage is a great size for 2 and only a short walk into the town or out into the countryside and many of the walks thereabouts. It has a wonderful history that the owners have managed to keep whilst providing everything you need while you stay and to a high standard. Bear in mind is that there are changes of floor level between downstairs roomRead mores and a very steep and narrow staircase and the cottage is located on a busy road with traffic starting early in the day. Lovely well equipped cottage in the nice little town of Crewkerne. Perfect for our little family of three; our 5 year old had his own room and loved all the games. The cottage was in excellent condition of repair, everything worked well and was clean and comfortable. Very good to have the parking opposite in the church too. Lots to see and do in thRead moree area. Hide

We had such a lovely stay at Shoemakers and Suzanne's helpful pointers throughout were very much appreciated. The toys and games were great - we managed a 90% screen free hols! We didn't make it to the village museum in the end but we did fit in day visits to Lyme Regis/Charmouth, Monkey world, Lulworth/Durdle Door, and we stopped in at Bilby's (inRead more Crewkerne) for coffee, cake and sorbet which was DELICIOUS! Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful, cozy cottage. Hide

Small, comfortable house in a very central position in an interesting town. The owner was most helpful in arranging parking and offering advice on places to eat. The drinks/biscuits left for our arrival were most welcome as was the information about walks etc. The house is on a busy road but the secondary glazing was effective. The steep staircase Read morewould be difficult for someone with mobility problems but I would recommend this for anyone else. Hide

Had a lovely three night stay at Shoemaker's Cottage. The house was clean and tidy, and exactly as described. It was a great location, just a short walk into town and not far from countryside walks. There was a nice selection of games, books and a jigsaw as well as locally produced biscuits and drinks.

Great cottage, everything you need for exploring the hidden gems of the area or having a drink/meal locally. Such a great place with a really helpful owner. Rarely go back to the same place as I like exploring new places but will probably go here again.

The town of Crewkern is very pretty, unfortunately there are also a lot of cars driving through the town, so it is quite noisy.

Very clean, warm and cosy. Very close to all Crewkerne has to offer. It has a downstairs toilet as well as one upstairs which was a plus.
