What is Somerset famous for?

For such a serene and modest county, Somerset has a surprising number of claims to fame! A cheese which is a favourite across the world, showcaves of international scientific interest, England's smallest city and more celebrities than you can shake a stick at - its accolades are wide and varied!

Picturesque Somerset, all year round

Somerset is home to some fantastic points of interest to visit on a day out.  No matter what the weather, come rain or come shine, Somerset has many fascinating all-weather places to head to.

A perfect destination

Pack your walking boots as you’ll be treated to some of the most beautiful walks in the South West. Take the challenge of climbing Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor and Somerset, standing 520m above sea level. The views from the summit are breathtaking with vistas out over both the Bristol and English Channels.

Tour the local towns and villages to get an authentic Exmoor experience during your holiday. Minehead has a traditional British seaside vibe and walking opportunities, being the starting point of the South West Coast Path, while Dulverton, next to the River Barle, is home to a number of welcoming pubs and restaurants.

For family attractions, jump over the border to Devon and visit Exmoor Zoo with its collection of animals including the ‘Exmoor Beast’ - a gorgeous melanistic leopard.
