Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

A quiet and peaceful location with a lot of character, the town of Bruton is a somewhat undiscovered destination, lying on the picturesque River Brue. Sitting in South Somerset, you’ll be perfectly placed for exploring all that this region has to offer, including pretty towns such as Chard and Yeovil. The town itself has some delightful restaurants and a number of pubs where you can enjoy some of the finest food and drink in Somerset, perfect for those looking for a foodie break.

With the churches of St Mary and The Holy Trinity dominating the sky-line of the town and the old-fashioned houses dotted around the narrow streets, it’s easy to see why people see this delightful town as such a romantic location. These narrow streets date back to medieval times and are known as Bartons, and some of these have unusual names such as Quaperlake Street and Plox. Wander through these hand in hand, while browsing the quirky independent shops as you go. Other must sees in the town include an ancient bridge, a 16th century dovecote and a quadrangle with a pretty view towards the river.

During a holiday in Bruton, you’ll be surrounded by miles and miles of countryside, meaning you can walk in any direction and find peace and serenity. One pleasant walk is besides the River Brue which runs through the centre of the town. If you’re willing to venture outside of Bruton, then you’ll find plenty of woodland so why not stroll through and find the perfect picnic spot? Visit Shepton Mallet or Gillingham which are short drives away, or instead head to the bustling town of Frome for an afternoon spent perusing the market or learning about its rich heritage.

The Bruton museum has items from the towns past ranging from as far back as the Jurassic age right up until the modern day. John Steinbeck, the famous writer, stayed here for a short period during his life and the museum houses a table he used to write on during his stay. Take inspiration as he did, from the beautiful scenery that this area of Somerset boasts.

One of the highlights of Bruton is the Festival of Arts which has some of the best displays of Somerset’s art and culture for you to enjoy around the months of May and June. These include the Packhorse Fair, Horticultural Show and musical theatre productions.
